Good Times And Bad With A '61 Pan

When I purchased this bike way back in late January of '96, little did I know the grief and aggravation it would cause me over the next two-and-a-half years. I also had no idea that, during that time, I'd end up meeting some of the best f&%$in' people in, and around, New York City. I also had the dubious distinction to meet, and know, one of the biggest, and as I soon discovered, legendary, assholes in the tri-state area. To let you know how much I grew to despise this man... well, I won't do it in print. However, if we should meet on the road, and yer willin' to pick up the tab on a couple shots o' Jim Beam bourbon, you can ask me about my buddy, Al.  Until then, read my piece about how to avoid unscrupulous bike shops. If you're lookin' for a shop, it'll be worthwhile reading.

Here are the tech specs and a few shots of the ol' pan to whet your appetite. As of August 2005, she has a few more miles on her, but she looks the same.

About the shops involved...

I'm not gonna spend a lotta time hypin' up the guys that helped me get this bike together other than to say that they are some of the most capable, trustworthy, and conscientious guys I've ever met.

Dave & Eric at Cycle Creations in Mineola, NY (in Nassau County, Long Island) did a great job of helping me get the pan back on the road. These guys take a personal interest in their customers, and treated me most fairly. Good mechanical know-how and concern for doing it right show in the quality bikes that come out of their shop.

Brian at Splatterhouse Graphics (just a bit further east, just off the Southern Parkway in Lindenhurst, NY) is about one of the best painters I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I can't describe his versatility in styles, and the seemingly effortless execution of his creations. I don't think I'm off base saying that Brian's one of the best painters in the country, bar none. Go to his web site, and see some of what he can do—you'll be impressed.

Finally, I wanna thank my bro' "Howeird" for helping me dial in this mutha. This is the man with the plan for anyone’s pan! My helmet's off to ya, bro'!

Back, I say, BACK!
