The Engine's Out! (July 1999)

IT’S ABOUT TIME!

Back in June, I’d finally had it with the foreign bike shop and decided to pick up the Sprint.  No hard feelings later, it was back at my place.

Then I ran into Kurt LeViere of Southington, Ohio.  He’s been messing with Aermacchis for the past 18 years.  Kurt assured me that he was Mr. Sprint, and that if anyone could get my bike on the road, he could. I decided to allow Kurt to tear into my engine.

About a week after meeting Kurt, we spent about 30 minutes yanking the motor from the frame so I could haul it up to Kurt’s shop.  The photos below tell the tale.  Thanks to Neal for helping out.

The photos below show the frame, which is in my other garage waiting to have its wheels yanked so I can lay on some fresh primer and chassis paint.

Even though I’m late getting this update out, lotsa progress has taken place since July. August has been a good month for this project, so stay tuned for some detailed rebuild shots, including photos of the cylinder head that was superbly reworked by Crazy Horse Speed Shop.  NOW we’re gettin’ psyched!
