It's been a while since we've updated our site, but it's not for lack of activity, just lack of time! Nonethelss, for that we apologize. We've had a few changes here at Cycle Creations and have also started quite a few new projects, which we will be featuring on the site over the next few weeks. ...so what's new around here?
Not too long ago, our head wrench Eric has picked up and relocated to Oklahoma. He found New York too congested (and too costly) for his country tastes, so he packed up his family and belongings and moved to where the roads are a lot less frequented. We wish him good luck and good riding! But like they say, there's a reason for everything, which leads us to our next bit of news. Allow us to introduce our new head wrench, Mel. (Shown below, left, with Mikey, right.) Stop by and meet "Mighty Mel" our new chief wrench. Mel has 20+ years experience in wrenching and racing. He's a total gearhead who not only knows how to build them and fix them but also knows how to make them go real FAST! Mel races his own highly modified FXR, which is the same bike he uses as his everyday ride! And by "ride" we don't mean just to and from the shop: he averages about 10-15,000 miles per year on this S&S powered scoot. We'll do a feature article on his bike in the upcoming weeks so please check back. As for the shop staff as a whole, Mikey wrenches in back with Mel, and Dave and Jimmy hold down the fort up front. Now, onto the bike news. Shortly we'll put up a feature article on "Roland's Righteous Rigid" (below), which we finished up a short time ago. This West Coast-looking, Swedish-Style chopper sports a 230mm tire and an 88-inch powerplant. (We like to build 'em to be ridden not just shown!) You might remember Roland from Project Metamorphosis, which was his Softail Sportster project that was featured in American Iron Magazine a few years back. Well, he's graduated to a big twin, and there's no telling what his next "project" will be. (He's already talking about something different!!!) We've also recently completed a total rebuild/customization of Layla's "Majik Blue" Sportster. This bike lost a push-and-shove match with a car last year and was brought to us in neatly labeled boxes, all disassembled and very, very broken. After much reconstruction and a whole lot of customizing, this hard-riding lady now has a ride which is not only quick and nimble, but a real head-turner to boot! This was mandatory because you see Layla is not only a very proficient rider; she also teaches riding at a local motorcycle riding school. And we shoudl also mention that she is also an accomplished motorcycle drag racer! (Is there a pattern here? Mel's into racing... Layla's into racing... wonder if that might not be leading us something in the future!) Layla and "Buddy" (her bike) is being featured in an upcoming issue of Full Throttle Magazine, but you'll see the bike here first. Do you remember Clutch Cable Lee's 89-inch Springer? (If not you can find it in our Cycle Archives.) Well, Lee decided it was time for a complete overhaul and we don't mean just a tune-up and some new chrome. The bike is currently going through a complete transformation, which should result in a whole lot of new trophies and a lot of new riding fun for Lee. We'll be featuring this build, too, in an ongoing series very soon. Also in-progress is Vinny's stretched Daytec Softail based project. This bike will feature a precision-built and blueprinted engine that won't have to make any apologies to a lot of the bigger cubic inch engines it might come up against. Attention to detail and state-of-the-art components can go a long long way. Who says "there's no substitute for cubic inches?" You can bet it's not us or Vinny! This bike will also feature some super sexy sheet metal and a hand-fabricated gas tank. Again, we'll be showing you more of this bike in the coming months. Last but not least, the shop as an entity has started it's own in-house project called "Just a Lil' Naughty" (see below). This stretched rigid will incorporate a few different themes. A little old school, some more traditional, a touch of high-tech, and a few hardcore bits here and there. We'll be tying all these styles into a coherent "retro-modern-classic-nostalgic" motorcycle... whatever that means! Should prove to be an interesting project. As you can see, we've been fairly busy here at the shop, and will be for a while. We're sure that over the coming weeks/months we'll more than make-up for the hiatus. Check back soon and often. We're sure that you'll find some very interesting articles and photos in the near future! |
