Owner Dave's Righteous ‘86 XLH |
It’s a sad fact: Many big twin riders unfairly look down their noses at Sportsters. After seeing this bike—or maybe after going up against it on the street—I think their attitudes would change. Dave Biagi’s personal ride has all the right stuff to make it a stand-out anywhere he parks it. |

Custom accessories abound. Visible mods include a bobbed rear fender supported by lower shocks and custom fender struts. The 16- and 19-inch Avon Super Venom tires ride on Boyd’s 5-spoke billet wheels. Stopping takes place when Dave squeezes the H-D calipers against the drilled Russell stainless steel rotors. The bike maintains the original chain rear drive. The most obvious engine piece is the chromed SU carb and intake manifold from Rivera Engineering. Is there a reason for this type of induction? You bet. The highly chromed motor started life as an 883, but now displaces 1200cc, and is chock full of performance parts. Pistons are high compression Wiseco units. Andrews V2 cams bump Rivera Taper-Lite pushrods, which move the valves in a pair of ported and flowed 1997 H-D 1200 heads. Ignition is courtesy of a Crane Hi-4 single fire system with Crane coil. Exhaust chores are handled by a set of staggered SuperTrapp pipes. |

Front forks are of the mid-glide variety and were made thus using Style Glide trees. To steer, Ness "T-Bars" with 10-inch risers are used. Forward controls with KuryAkyn pegs allow Dave to manipulate the foot controls with comfortable ease. Speed is monitored via the handlebar-mounted mini speedo. The headlight is a Paughco unit. The black powdercoated frame is topped off with marble-ized candy maroon sheetmetal. The beautiful paint was sprayed by Splatterhouse Graphics using House of Kolor components. Look closely and you’ll see the subtle ghost graphics lying just beneath the surface of the mirror-clear top coat. |

In addition to paint details, visible above are the bike’s Pingel fuel valve and the high perf SU carburetor with braided steel control cables. |
