With the cosmetics, electrical, and suspension items completed we turned our attention to the power train. The original plan was just to polish the jugs and heads and have a completely polished motor. Lee then decided that "while it's apart what else should we do?" More deviations! To make a long story short, jugs and heads were sent to Colorlife for polishing and then powder coated to match the paint job. They were then sent to Diamondheads for their unique fin machining treatment, which not only looks totally hot, but also provides cylinder cooling by increasing the surface area of each fin. Oh, and Lee decided he also wanted a Baker 6-speed transmission powdercoated to match the paint.

After receiving the jugs and heads there was another change in direction. The entire motor was shipped off to "Walter the Motor Master" at Fletcher's Machine to disassemble and blueprint the 89-incher. Walter replaced the bearings and bushings in the bottom end, installed new pistons to bump the compression slightly, cc'ed and flowed the heads along with installing compression releases, and topped it off with a new chrome-plated Mikuni carb to replace the motor's previous S&S "Super E." Walter turned an already potent mill into a "Super 89" with these parts along with "the Master's" tricks of the trade.
